HMV Ireland and their horrible delivery times – Do not buy.

If you’re from Ireland and you’re looking to order DVDs or boxsets online, then I suggest that you avoid HMV’s Irish website at all costs. Simply put – the delivery times are terrible and their customer support is almost non-existent.

On Tuesday, the 2nd of January, 2018, I ordered a DVD from the website. A few hours later, I received an email telling me that my item had been dispatched and that it had left their warehouse. Apparently, it was in the “capable hands of their delivery partners” and it would arrive by post within 3-7 working days.

It is now Wednesday, the 17th of January and it has still not arrived.

At first I thought that there might have been a delay because of how close it was to the Christmas season – but then I remembered that I had the exact same issue with HMV back in May of 2017.

On Monday, the 22nd of May, 2017, I ordered two boxsets from HMV’s Irish website. That same day, I received an email telling me that my order had been dispatched and that it would take around 3-7 working days for it to reach me. I don’t remember exactly how long it took for my order to arrive, but I did find an email that I sent to them on the 7th of June, 2017. In my email, I told them that I had ordered from their website 17 days ago and that my boxsets had still not arrived.

Their response? Nothing. No reply. Zilch!

It wasn’t until a few working days after I sent that email that my DVDs finally arrived – over 20 days later. Simply put, it should not take that long to order a DVD from an Irish website. On the two occasions that I’ve ordered from HMV, the delivery times have always been much later than what you’d typically expect when buying online.

After taking a quick glance at Twitter and Trust Pilot, I can see that a lot of other Irish customers have also been experiencing delays with HMV, and that many of these customers have received zero customer support.

  • One customer ordered DVDs on the 29th of November, 2017. They still hadn’t arrived by the 7th of January, 2018.
  • A woman called Niamh on Trust Pilot said that she had ordered from HMV on the 12th of October, 2017, and that her delivery didn’t arrive until 20 days later.
  • Orla on Trust Pilot said that she received the “dispatched order” email on the 29th of August, 2017. By the 10th of October, over 40 days later, her delivery had still not arrived.
  • John McLaughlin on Twitter: “I made an online order from on the 5th of December. Not only did it not arrive before Christmas but there is still no sign of it! I have emailed and filled out the contact us form 5 times at this stage without reply. Where is my order?” This was posted on the 10th of January, 2017.

If you look at Twitter or Trust Pilot, you will find scores of people saying the exact same thing: HMV’s delivery service is awful and their customer support is even worse.
