Tinder: There’s no one new around you.

If you’ve used Tinder before, you’ve inevitably come across the “there’s no one new around you” message at some point or another. Basically, it’s the “end of the line” until a new person inside your chosen age groups enters the Search Distance that you have set.

Tinder - There's no one new around you

Tinder’s “there’s no one new around you” message can be pretty frustrating.

Well… maybe that’s not entirely true. Maybe there’s a way to get rid of this message – at least for a few minutes.

Here are a few things that I’ve learned about this particular message. In many cases, I’ve been able to get a few more profiles to swipe on.

Widen your Search Distance and Age Group.

Changing your search settings is the most obvious course of action to take. If you’re desperate enough for more profiles to swipe on, you could simply widen the age group you’re interested in and / or increase your chosen Search Distance radius. The drawback with this is that you might not want to match with somebody that is too far away. I guess the question is: Do you use Tinder as a tool to meet up with new people or do you just use it because you think it’s a source of entertainment?

Reduce your Search Distance.

Sounds ridiculous, right? Surely reducing your search will result in even less profiles to swipe on? Well, funnily enough – in some cases, reducing my search radius has led to two or three new profiles appearing. My guess? Maybe it’s related to some sort of caching mechanism that Tinder has.

Reduce your Age Group range.

Again – it sounds a bit stupid. However, reducing my age range has often led to the appearance of a few more Tinder profiles.

Log out and log back in again.

I’m not entirely sure why this works sometimes, but it does. Log out of the Tinder app and log back in again – then check to see if there’s anyone new around you. In many cases, you’ll find that a few more people have appeared.

In my personal opinion as a web developer, I reckon that the above steps above work because they somehow “break” whatever caching mechanism Tinder is using. It is doubtful that the app is in real-time, so there probably is some sort of server side caching in operation. By changing your search settings, you are basically changing your “query” and forcing Tinder’s server to give you a more up-to-date listing of profiles. By doing this, you momentarily can get rid of that dreaded “there’s no one new around you” message.

In the past, I’ve seen a number of people claiming that Tinder is “drip-feeding” you profiles to keep you interested in re-visiting the app on a daily basis. This would make sense from a business perspective. There’s also the possibility that Tinder hides profiles that have been inactive for too long.

Restart your Tinder account.

If your matches are going nowhere and you’re tired of repeatedly seeing this message, then maybe it’s time to delete your Tinder account and start it all over again? Word of caution: If you’re using the same pictures that you did before: You might end up with the exact same results!
