You cannot remove someone from a Snapchat group.
“But why? I was the person who created the group!”, I can hear you complain.
To be honest, I share your puzzlement. It doesn’t make much sense to me either.
Two years ago, I created a Snapchat group for our workplace. Unfortunately, within a day or so, we quickly hit the 32-member limit. Then, a few weeks later, two members of the group left our company to take up roles in other places.
Immediately, I had people contacting me and asking me to remove the two ex-employees so that others could join.
Unfortunately, there was no such option.
You cannot remove someone from a Snapchat group.
Unfortunately, Snapchat groups do not work like Whatsapp groups.
If you create a Snapchat group chat, you do not gain any kind of special administrator privileges.
This means that you cannot remove members, and everyone else in the group is free to add whoever they want. Other members can even change the name of the group if they want to.
Simply put, it’s a free-for-all. Snapchat doesn’t care who created the group.
Alternative solution.
The only way around this is to do one of the following:
- Simply explain to the person why you need them to leave the group and hope that they understand the situation and leave on their own accord. In this case, explaining the member limit can help, as it lets them know that it’s not “personal”.
- Create a new group with everyone except the people that you want gone. This is obviously not a perfect solution, as it means that you will lose saved chats, etc. It also means that you will have to go through the exact same process the next time you want someone to leave. It’s not a perfect solution, but if you need them gone quickly and without hassle, it’s probably the best approach to take. I put the “without hassle” part in bold because some people will feel offended if they’re asked to leave a Snapchat group.
Anyway, that’s currently the situation. Snapchat groups are basically like the Wild West.
There is no administrator or moderator, and the creator of the group has the exact same permissions as everyone else.
If you’re planning on setting up a group chat for something important, I would recommend using Whatsapp or another app instead.
